Есть для меня книги Кинга, вызывающие восторг. А есть такие, чисто проходные, те, которые я прочитала для галочки и которые я вряд ли буду перечитывать. Например, “Парень из Колорадо” совсем у меня не пошел. Или “История Лиззи”, ну мрак же полный. Вот и “Бессонница” занимает на моей книжной полке место в категории “один раз можно”.
Сюжет: Ральф Робертс, пожилой товарищ, в самом начале романа хоронит свою жену, умершую от рака. После этого он начинает страдать бессонницей – с каждым днем он просыпается все раньше и раньше. Он в полном отчаянии, пробует разные народные средства для улучшения сна (ну-ну, плавали, знаем, не работают они нИ тщщерта), но они ему (конеееечно) не помогают. Из-за личного предубеждения он не хочет обращаться к доктору (тот, якобы, ” упустил ” рак его жены на ранней стадии), просто страдает и бдит ночами. И в одну из этих ночей он видит странное: из дома его соседки, пожилой и очень больной леди, выходят два странных субъекта, похожих на докторов-карликов, один из которых держит в руке ножницы. Утром выясняется, что соседка скончалась во сне. Ральф в замешательстве. Но еще больше его шокирует то, что он начал видеть ауры людей.
В итоге, немного пометавшись и посомневавшись, Ральф открывается своей давней подруге Луизе Чесс, и она признается ему, что тоже страдает бессонницей и тоже видит ауры людей. После этого они знакомятся с теми самыми “докторами” Клото и Лахесисом, которые отмеряют и обрывают жизни людей.

Они сообщают, что Ральфу и Луизе дано сложное задание — спасти одного ребенка от их третьего “братца” Атропоса, который ответственен за “случайную смерть” людей, то есть являет собой рок.
Луиза и Ральф начинают действовать, совсем не веря в успех своего “крестового похода”.
И вот, понимаете, вроде бы сюжет интересный, вроде бы есть, за что зацепиться, чем увлечься, но вот не идет, и все.
Я не знаю, что именно не так с романом, возможно, сюжет несколько затянут, возможно, я просто ждала от книги бОльшего, но до самого финала я прямо торопила: ну кончайся поскорее. ну зачем эта лишняя болтология? да пока ты там будешь рефлексировать все уже взорвется на хрен и все помрут.

Даже тот факт, что события происходят в моем любимом Дерри не помог. Да, я еще раз встретилась с Майком Хэнлоном и вскольз поздоровалась с моим любимчиком Беном Хэнскомом, но нет, я лучше еще раз “Оно” перечитаю. Вообще в “Бессоннице” много отсылок на другие романы Кинга: кроме “Оно” есть намеки на “Роза Марена”, “КДЖ” и “Долорес Клейборн” — так же, как в первом и последнем Кинг поднимает в “Бессоннице” тему домашнего насилия и феминизма, а это 1994 год, тогда это не было хайпом.
Стивен Кинг вслух говорил о домашнем насилии еще до того, как это стало мейнстримом.
Простите, не удержалась.
Для меня, правда, один плюс все-таки был: я окончательно созрела для чтения всего цикла “Темная Башня”, т.к. сюжет “Бессонницы” косвенно связан с миром Башни. Скоро меня ждет полное погружение в ромашковое поле алых роз и мир Crimson King.

Какие тёмные стороны нашей жизни начинают видеть неспящие? Где реальность, а где безумные фантазии разума, пораженного бессонницей. На все эти вопросы дал ответы Стивен Кинг в своём романе «Бессонница». Он открыл дверь в царство, где Морфей давно убит, а человеческие страхи и пороки вырвались из наспех кем-то открытого ящика Пандоры.

Феминизм, таблетки и жестокость
События романа происходят в небольшом американском городке Дерри штата Мэн. Да-да в том самом, где промышлял клоун Пенивайз и «Неудачники» из романа “Оно”.
В центре повествования 70-летний Ральф Робертс, который страдает бессонницей. Стивен Кинг прекрасно описал состояние человека, который постепенно теряет способность видеть сны. Сначала перерывы между бодрствованием и сном незначительные, затем интервалы увеличиваются. Вскоре человек перестаёт понимать где реальность, а где сновидение. Яркие вспышки перед глазами, невидимые волны, в которых тонет тело, а также неутихающая боль в голове. Стивен Кинг постепенно погружает нас в это нездоровое бодрствование, которое скрывает страшные тайны небольшого городка.
Главный герой роман “Бессонница” видит мир глазами обитателей Красной комнаты из “Твин Пикса”
Из-за хронической бессонницы Ральф начинает видеть ауры людей, которые похожи на тонкие линии света, напоминающие ниточки, которые не дают улететь воздушным шарикам. 68-летняя подруга Ральфа Лоис Часс также видит эти ауры.
Пожилым героям романа противопоставлен злобный «дух» Атропос, который получает огромное удовольствие от того, что преждевременно перерезает струны человеческих шариков-жизней ржавым скальпелем. Атропос использует для своих чёрных целей феминисток, которые выступают за аборты и права женщин.

В кульминационный момент герои-пенсионеры понимают, что бессонница — это не проклятье, а дар, который поможет им не допустить нарушение порядка во Вселенной.
Стоит отметить, что сюжет в этом романе Стивена Кинга развивается значительно медленней, чем в его других книгах. На 800 страницах есть где разгуляться. Я думаю, что Кинг решил неспеша рассказывать историю Ральфа, чтобы мы вместе с героем прошли все стадии бессонницы, попав на её темную сторону.
“Бессонница” заставляет нас испытывать ощущения, которые свойственны людям с хроническим нарушением сна
Но, как только читателю становятся понятны цели героя, лучше пристегнуть ремень безопасности. Вы со стремительной скоростью помчитесь с этой американской горки. Стоп-кран удастся сорвать только тогда, когда вы перелистнёте последнюю страницу романа.
Бессонница по-кинговски
Люди в романе Стивена Кинга «Бессонница» представлены в образе недолговечных существ. Над ними стоят долгожители-ангелы, которыми управляют бессмертные духи. Кинг пытается показать, как эти группы существ могут взаимодействовать друг с другом. Вопросы, на которые пытаются ответить герои романа, становятся почти религиозными.

Ральф пытается познать грани Вселенной, до которых не добирались «недолговечные существа».
